Overview

With the growing desire for society to build lasting structures that can withstand the tests of disasters, NaRDA was established in 2014 to recognize those who are taking action. Focusing on many different disciplines from civil engineering, to hydroengineering, and disaster prevention. These contributions will be awarded and will become a key source of information and technical study for the future.

    Naigai Engineering Co., Ltd.

Seismic performance verification on Tilted Seawalls Caused by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake
    Program Used: Engineer's Studio®
The 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake damaged many of the agricultural land coastal protection facilities (embankments) along the Nanao Bay coast. These embankments experienced collapse, subsidence of the tops and opening of joints due to tilting and movement, significantly reducing their functionality. The Land Improvement Technical Office of the Hokuriku Regional Agricultural Administration Office is currently working to restore the damaged embankments due to concerns about further damage from high tides, etc., given the current situation. Most of the damaged levee revetments were gravity concrete structures, and many of them remained tilted. This project involved conducting a stability assessment through a remaining strength check of tilted embankments, with the aim of achieving early restoration by clarifying whether or not countermeasures were necessary.

Impact of Condition Differences based on the Act on the Regulation of Housing Land Development and Specified Embankment on Embankment Sliding and Collapse
Program Used: Slope stability analysis, UC-win/Road
To prevent disasters related to embankments, the Act on the Regulation of Housing Land Development and Specified Embankment has been established. However, there are many embankments across Japan that are subject to this risk, and it is important for practitioners other than managers and specialized engineers to easily understand the disaster risks at the site. This work newly presents, as useful knowledge of the Act for these people, a relationship that allows for a simple evaluation of the approximate shape of embankments for each material on site. In addition, specific operational methods using FORUM8's software products (Slope Stability Analysis Ver.14, UC-win/Road Ver.17.2) are demonstrated as a new proposal for improving efficiency through data integration to further leverage BIM/CIM.
