Simulation

 Presentation function
There is a new Full Screen view, with a Simulation Panel. This is designed for giving presentations. The Simulation Panel gives the user direct access to a variety of navigation tools, display options and simulation features. It contains shortcuts that allow the user to:

Navigate by mouse around the view
Create and move to Camera Positions
Change the Date and Time
Travel along a path in the project
Run a Script
Start, Stop and Pause Traffic Simulation
The panel can be positioned on the left or right of the Full Screen View, and can be hidden. The panes on the panel can be dragged and dropped to the most convenient order for the user, and can be resized as needed.

 Traffic simulation functions
VR-Studio(R) now includes full Traffic Simulation for roads. Although similar to traffic simulation in UC-Win/Road, the traffic simulation in VR-Studio(R) is more flexible, configurable and powerful.
In VR-Studio(R), the driver's behavior patterns are set for each vehicle and the driving is performed based on the driving rules and the behavior pattern. All vehicles are given the driving algorithm and they will finally serve as the traffic stream. There are multiple elements to be used for traffic simulation and all of them are collectively managed in the traffic resources.

Traffic resources
Traffic resources include the following features. Traffic resources can be exported/imported between projects. The traffic profile and driver's profile you set before can be used for different project so that the cost and time for creating data can be reduced
Figure 2 Traffic resources menu

Driver profiles which define how drivers perform in traffic:
Driver profiles define how drivers perform in traffic. They specify how aggressively drivers accelerate and decelerate in the vehicle they are driving, and the acceptable gap time between their vehicle and others.
Min deceleration/Max deceleration The minimum and maximum deceleration speeds that this driver feels comfortable with.
Max acceleration/Max acceleration The limits to the proportion of available power that the driver will use when accelerating.
Gap acceptance time The minimum gap time this driver will wait before pulling out at an intersection.
Following time The minimum time in seconds between this driver's vehicle and the one in front.

Vehicle performance profiles which specify the engine performance and gearing:
You can define as many performance profiles as you need for your project. Vehicle performance profile allows the uses to specify the vehicle engine performance and gearing. It affects the acceleration of vehicle so that it has the parameter which affects the traffic stream.

Vehicle groups:
VR-Studio(R) now allows the users to control traffic based on the vehicle type. The traffic stream can be set all together by getting the multiple vehicle types into some vehicle groups.

Traffic profiles:
Traffic profiles are used to define the proportions of vehicles that are created by Traffic Generators. Different traffic profile can be referred in the traffic profile so that the profile can be created in multiple layers.

Traffic generator:
A Traffic Generator Profile determines the vehicles that will be generated by a Traffic Generator. You can assign the traffic generation method to generator profile. The predefined generation profile can be assigned to the point where you actually want to generate. The number of vehicles to be generated per hour can be specified by selecting traffic profile.
Moreover, some generation patterns can be run in order by dividing the generation into multiple phases. The transition of traffic stream flown from the intersections which are not created in VR data can be represented by changing the traffic amount in the multiple phases based on the time.

Traffic sink:
You can sink traffic (remove traffic) anywhere on a road, except within intersections. They determine the probability of vehicles being removed from the traffic simulation in each group.

Setting of traffic lights:
It allows the users to perform basic settings for the arbitrary traffic lights. Each light can be set by selecting 3D model. Each model has multiple sides and it can be selected according to the direction from which traffic come.

Traffic counters:
There is the function enabling the count of the vehicle number which pass through the Waypoint on the road.
It can be useful for simple traffic survey and check of traffic amount setting. In addition, the survey result can be saved in text format.

Setting of traffic control and intersection:
The intersection Editor now provides the tools for configuring traffic movement through an intersection. The information of traffic control can be set along with the shape of the intersection (Figure 5). The paths that vehicles take through an intersection can be displayed and edited in the setting of driving route. The weight can be set for each driving route so that the probability of driving each route can be specified. Moreover, when the vehicle stop, the position where it stops can be set as stop point (Figure 6).
The predefined traffic lights resources are placed and the phase time and color can be set via interface.Traffic lights can have multiple sides.

 スクリプト機能
In VR-Studio(R) 1.03, the script function is added to create simulations that can be used for project presentations. Script can be set up to perform the following actions:

  • Create, close and hide View windows
  • Look at objects, such as trees, models, and points of interest
  • Change 3D and Plan View display options
  • Travel along paths
  • Move around View windows
  • Change time and date
  • Change realities and layers
  • Display formatted messages
  • Start and stop and pause traffic simulation
  • Run different script

The script tool allows the running of subscripts and the related scripts in the script and the action does not depend on the time. Multiple scripts can be performed at the same time (Figure7).

 Others
Decorators
Decorators are a useful way of making modifications to sections. They are similar to modifiers, but do not belong to the surface of the road. They can be used, for example for putting railings along a footpath for a short piece of road, or for adding crash barriers (Figure 8).

Quick access
Path editors:
The Station Points, Horizontal Curve and Vehicle Curve table Editors can be quickly accessed from the Road forms. This means that you do not have to scroll through the Project Tree to find them. In addition, the Vertical Curve Editor for the road can be quickly opened from the same form.

Satellite Image and Region Point Editors:
The Region Editor has new buttons which allow quick access to the Region Points Editor and the Satellite Image Editor for that region.

Vault 5 Support
The Teamwork feature now uses Vault 5 for Source Control. Vault 4 is no longer supported. It supports for Subversion other than Vault.

Path Color in Plan View
Different types of paths are drawn in different colors in Plan View so that they are easily distinguishable. The default colors can be changed in the VR-Studio(R) options menu.

Clean Up resource
A new function allows you to clean up unused resources in a project (Figure 9).
