Achieving zero accidents and resolving workforce shortages
In addition to addressing driver shortages and an aging workforce exacerbated by Japan's "2024 logistics crisis," the logistics and transportation industry faces a pressing need to advance safe driving education. However, conventional driver training has typically relied on OJT dependent on the trainer's personal experience, and even when driving simulators are used, they generally utilize generic virtual environments. This has limited the effectiveness of hazard prediction drills based on real-world road conditions and objective driving skill assessments from a third-person perspective.
The PLATEAU Driving Simulator is a driver training system built on UC-win/Road that faithfully reproduces real-world urban environments by leveraging the "PLATEAU" 3D city models promoted by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). Integrating traffic and pedestrian flow simulations within a digital twin environment, the system enables practical training using actual delivery and bus routes. Furthermore, it allows for quantitative assessments through driving logs and data analytics, thereby elevating the standard and efficiency of safe driving education.

Scenario-based training tailored to driver proficiency levels, integrating real-world traffic and pedestrian flow data.
This driving simulator integrates PLATEAU 3D city models with traffic and pedestrian flow data within UC-win/Road, constructing an ultra-realistic digital twin environment. The system replicates actual business routes within a virtual space—complete with buildings, roads, bridges, and urban facilities—enabling highly practical training tailored to day-to-day operations. By integrating traffic and pedestrian flow data to replicate realistic urban traffic conditions, the system allows trainees to safely experience hazardous scenarios including sudden dart-outs and hidden hazards appearing from blind spots, which are difficult to recreate during actual on-road training.

The system logs driving behaviors—such as harsh acceleration, sudden braking, speeding, and safety checks. By combining numerical performance metrics with a replay function, it enables objective driving skill diagnoses and effective reflective learning. The system captures and analyzes driving data in real time, leveraging it to evaluate driving skills and continuously improve training programs.

Incorporating the unique characteristics of large trucks, buses, and taxis, the system allows users to construct custom scenarios tailored to each company's specific operation routes. These flexible, vehicle- and purpose-specific scenarios support a wide range of training, from beginner driver lessons to hazard perception drills for veteran drivers. We deliver custom training content tailored to your specific business operations, fully compatible with existing physical driving simulators.
