Reproduces Tsuru University Campus as Digital Twin Using 3D Models Created from Aerial Photographs Taken from Helicopter

FORUM8 Co., Ltd. (2-15-1 Konan, Minato-ku, Tokyo. President Yuji Ito. URL: https://www.forum8.co.jp/english/) and AERO ASAHI CORPORATION (Head office: Koto-ku, Tokyo. President Hiroshi Kato.) cooperated with the "Tsuru City Exploratory Tutoring School and Citizen's University × Tsuru University Multipurpose Classroom Building (tentative name) Development Project^(*1) for Digital Human Resource Development" promoted by Tsuru City, Yamanashi Prefecture, and provided support for the construction of VR environments and the introduction of 3DVR software.

AERO ASAHI constructed 3D models (LOD1-4) of the university campus using aerial photographs taken from a helicopter. Although there is no specification stipulated by the MLIT for indoor data (LOD4), AERO ASAHI took photos and videos inside the buildings and created 3D models inside the university buildings based on the building plan drawing data (design CAD data).

Using data acquired by AERO ASAHI, FORUM8 reproduced the Tsuru University campus as digital twin in the UC-win/Road environment, which was further developed into a metaverse using the F8VPS WebVR platform. This enabled Tsuru University to conduct open campus tours, educational training simulations, as well as drill simulations of disaster evacuation guidance in the digital twin environment. The digital twin and metaverse created in this project can also be used in conjunction with VR goggles and are expected to be used in the future for disaster prevention and disaster mitigation simulations in other educational institutions and communities.

FORUM8 and AERO ASAHI will continue to support "DX in urban development" initiatives by utilizing 3DVR technology, and contribute to the achievement of Society 5.0, the promotion of smart cities, and the realization of the Digital Garden City State concept.

(*1) As part of the project, the goal is to promote interaction between university students and professors and local residents through "learning," and to develop VR devices and software as a project to promote effectiveness, leading to the development of digital human resources.
