The 28th ITS World Congress
Date : September 18-22, 2022 Venue : Los Angeles Convention Center

From September 18 to 22, the 28th ITS World Congress was held in Los Angeles, US, which had been first planned to be held in 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic of COVID-19. The event started with the opening speech by Mr. Eric Garcetti, the mayor of Los Angeles, and other famous ITS leaders in the US, Asia, and Europe. More than 6,000 people from 64 countries visited the L.A. Convention Center during the event period.

The theme of ITS 2022 was "Transformation by Transportation", and 211 companies and organizations exhibited. Visitors experienced products and solutions using the cutting-edge technologies at each booth by exhibitors from around the world who led the ITS industry, and the event was a great success. Forum8 joined the ITS for the first time since the 2019 Singapore Congress held before the pandemic. We ran our own booth under the theme "Autonomous / MaaS Driving Solutions for the DX Era 3DVR Software that can Realize Digital Twins".

At the Forum8 booth, we exhibited ADAS solutions and VR/AR/MR solutions cooperated with the 3D VR software VR Design Studio UC-win/Road. For example, "Compact Driving Simulator" was a UC-win/Road Driving Simulator linked with a watch-type heart rate sensor and allowed visitors to experience driving simulation while monitoring their heart rate in cooperation with driving scenarios. Other solutions included "F8VPS", the next-generation full cloud solution on Web platform, "VR Motion Seat" to experience a roller coaster travel scenario, Automatic Steering VR Simulator with Torque Control equipped with force feedback, and an embedded system for AUTOSAR and ROS/ROS2. Especially, the VR Motion Seat, Driving Simulator, and eye tracking system attracted the visitors, and many of them experienced the solutions. There were also exhibitors from other booths who visited us, saying that they had always been interested in our booth.

In the field of autonomous driving, there were many needs for the use of UC-win/Road for development in cooperation with sensors and for research on safe driving. We also received many inquiries about digital twin, and we proposed for example a monitoring system using F8VPS in conjunction with UC-win/Road. Forum8 will continue to expand and develop new solutions and systems supporting DX including ITS system R&D.
