UDMC is a compact and budget server that achieves
low-cost by integrating numerous commercially available PC hardware
together. Users can freely exchange parts to their hardware of
preference and easily swap out old, or malfunctioning parts, keeping
the maintenance cost and effort at a minimum. FORUM 8 designs the main
frame and power supply unit (PSU) and is produced domestically in
Japan. The PSU supports up to 400W. All cables can be
disconnected and removed at will to ensure maximum ventilation
& cooling efficiency. The slot for Cooler Fan has been redesigned to accommodate long-type PCI-Express Cards. This change allows for the installation of high-performance long GPU cards as well as Xeon Phi CPUs. Ver.4 now also now have dedicated heatsinks in its CPU slots, integrated motherboard back panels, and improved noise level reduction and cooling efficiency. In addition, the frontal USB slots and power switch has been redesigned to improve its robustness.

UMDC uses server-class motherboards, CPU, and memory parts
to achieve unrivaled reliability and accessibility. Since Ver. 3 the
motherboard selected for the UMDC always contain IPMI (a type of remote
monitoring and control) features to make remote management possible.
The interior slots used to hold the hard drives have also been designed
to increase its sturdiness.
The following list contains the maximum number of hard drives supported:
PCI Slot | 2.5 inch type | 3.5 inch type | With GPU | 6 (up to 12 TB supported) | 2 (up to 16 TB supported) | Without RAID | 12 (up to 24 TB supported) | 4 (up to 32 TB supported) |
